My Puppy Won’t Settle!
A restless, noisy puppy can disrupt your household and cause unnecessary stress. To identify the root cause of your puppy's behaviour, consider the following:
Toilet Needs: Take your puppy outside and wait for them to relieve themselves. If they don't need to go, bring them back indoors after a few minutes.
Hunger: Puppies vary in their food requirements, so adjust their feeding schedule accordingly. If they're hungry, they'll become irritable and fussy.
Overtiredness: Overtired puppies can exhibit tantrums, excessive whining and even aggression. Provide them with quiet sleeping areas and ensure they get enough rest (a minimum of 16 hours per day is required!).
Barking and Whining: Excessive noise can signal distress or a desire for attention. Watch your puppy's body language; truly distressed dogs may pant, tremble, salivate, or hide. If they're simply seeking attention, ignore their vocalisations until they give you a few seconds of quiet and then you can see to their needs. It might even be that they are bored and require some extra mental stimulation.
Diet: If your puppy's activity level is erratic, they experience temper tantrums, exhibit biting tendencies, or experience digestive issues, it might be due to an unsuitable diet. Gradually transition to a new, high-quality, easily digested diet with fresh meat as the main protein source.
